Raising the Roof! Vaulted Ranch Style Homes

3 Reasons why the vaulted ranch style home is “rising” in popularity in NEPA.

1. Why be good, when you can be GREAT?

Long gone are the days of the colonial style of having a living room plus den. Open floor concepts are in and much more practical not only for entertaining friends and family, but also for every day life. The coveted great room takes this idea and gives it a larger feel and focal point to the home.

2. The era of en”light”enment.

Let’s face it, the caveman era of dark closed spaces marketed as “cozy” has got to end. Great-great grandma’s thick blackout curtains from Transylvania need to be destroyed immediately as well. Homes need light- preferably as much natural light as possible (you know like the kind from the sun). This means windows, the bigger the better! By vaulting the ceiling, you can utilize what frankly would’ve been dead space anyways by adding additional, large windows.

3. So let me “level” with you here.

One level living, “zero entry” homes are a great choice for your new home, because it’s important to remember that stairs are all well and good when we are young whippersnappers. Odds are you’ll be living here for a while so it might not be a bad idea to think ahead and assume that the older you get, the less you’ll want to deal with going up and down stairs. Is it more expensive to build a ranch? Typically, yes. But will it save you in the long run when we don’t have to relocate in our golden years? Absolutely.
